The full details for Berry
Berry is the southern edge of our patch, and one of our favourite places to work. The town has kept its 19th century character, with heritage buildings and shopfronts along Queen Street, weatherboard cottages in the surrounding streets, and green hills dotted with farms, hobby farms and acreage properties. Plenty of homes here are lovingly restored, and plenty more are waiting their turn.
Heritage homes and old wiring
Older Berry homes are beautiful, but their electrical systems usually are not. In a house that has been around for a long time, we might find several generations of wiring, each added by a different person with a different idea of how it should be done. Typical problems include:
- Old cable with brittle or crumbling insulation in the roof space
- Switchboards with rewireable fuses and no safety switches
- Light fittings and power points that are not properly earthed
- Circuits overloaded by modern appliances
If you are restoring a heritage home, a careful rewire can bring the electrical system up to date while protecting original features. We plan cable routes to keep damage to walls, ceilings and joinery to a minimum. Customers have told us Kalani rewired their house for a renovation and kept them informed the whole way.
A switchboard upgrade with safety switches on every circuit is usually part of the same job.
Farms, sheds and acreage
Outside town, rural properties bring longer cable runs, sheds, workshops, pumps and outdoor equipment. A shed running off a long lead, or a pump that trips the power, needs proper attention. We can install dedicated supplies to sheds with their own protection, add outdoor power points rated for the conditions and fit sensor lights for safer movement around the property after dark. See our outdoor and security lighting page for more.
Sauna and wellness spaces
Saunas have become popular in the area, especially on properties with a bit of room. A sauna heater needs a dedicated circuit sized correctly for the unit, along with proper protection. Customers have told us about the sauna installations we have done, and we are happy to talk through what yours will need.
Smoke alarms and safety
For older timber homes in particular, working smoke alarms are essential. We install interconnected alarms so that a fire in one part of the house sets off alarms in every room. In a rambling old cottage with closed doors and long hallways, that early warning can make all the difference.
Kalani runs Flowstate Electrical Co and you speak to him directly. He explains what he finds in plain language, turns up when he says he will and treats your home with care.
We also work in Gerringong and Gerroa on the way up the coast.
