The full details for Shellharbour and Lake Illawarra
This is home ground for Flowstate Electrical Co. We are based in Warilla, a short drive from just about every suburb around Shellharbour and the southern side of Lake Illawarra. When you call, you speak directly to Kalani, the licensed electrician who will be doing your work.
The area is one of the most varied parts of the Illawarra. There are post-war fibro and brick homes near the lake, beachside houses along the coast, established family suburbs, and brand new estates going up in the west. Each comes with different electrical needs, and we work across all of them.
Suburbs we cover
We cover every suburb in the Shellharbour and Lake Illawarra area, including:
- Warilla, our home base
- Barrack Heights and Barrack Point
- Lake Illawarra and Mount Warrigal
- Oak Flats and Haywards Bay
- Shellharbour and Shell Cove
- Flinders and Blackbutt
- Albion Park and Albion Park Rail
- Calderwood and Tullimbar
- Dunmore
- Windang and Primbee
The older lakeside suburbs
Suburbs like Warilla, Barrack Heights, Lake Illawarra, Mount Warrigal and Windang grew quickly in the decades after the war. Many homes are fibro or brick, built in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, and many still have original or partly upgraded switchboards. Ceramic fuses, no safety switches and boards that are crowded with additions are all common.
If that sounds like your place, a switchboard upgrade is often the most worthwhile electrical job you can do. Modern boards include safety switches that cut power almost instantly if current leaks to earth, protecting anyone who touches a faulty appliance or cable. While working on other jobs, Kalani has found fire hazards in meter boxes that owners had no idea about, which is why we always give the board a careful look.
Being close to the lake and the beach also means salt air and moisture take a toll on outdoor lights and power points. Replacing corroded fittings with ones suited to the conditions is a common job right around the water, from Primbee and Windang down to Barrack Point.
Established family suburbs
Oak Flats, Blackbutt, Albion Park and Albion Park Rail are full of family homes, many from the 1970s through the 1990s. Typical work here includes LED lighting upgrades, ceiling fans for hot summer nights, extra power points and USB outlets, and interconnected smoke alarms. Kitchen renovations bring range hood, cooktop and oven installs, and we make sure the circuits behind them are up to the job.
New estates in the west and south
Shell Cove, Flinders, Calderwood, Tullimbar and Haywards Bay have grown enormously, with new homes going up near the marina at Shell Cove and across the new estates near Albion Park. These homes have modern switchboards, but builders often deliver the basics only. We add downlights, pendants, outdoor lighting, ceiling fans, smart home setups and power for alfresco areas.
Bigger blocks also mean pools and outdoor living. Customers have told us we did the power for their new pool and garden lights, and our pool and outdoor power work is designed to keep water and electricity safely apart.
We also do overflow work for builders and other tradies in the new estates, fitting in with their schedules.
Around Albion Park, Calderwood and Tullimbar, summers are noticeably hotter than on the coast. Ceiling fans in every bedroom and a dedicated circuit for a split system are two of the most common requests we get from families who have just moved in. If you are still building, let us know early and we can plan the points before the plaster goes up.
Emergencies
We are open 24 hours for emergency call outs. Because we are based in Warilla, most of the Shellharbour and Lake Illawarra area is close by. If you have lost power, smell burning or have a safety switch that will not reset, call and tell us what is happening. Customers have told us Kalani turned up at short notice for urgent jobs.
